Two Australian dare-devils have claimed a world first by kite-surfing across the notoriously stormy waters from Tasmania to the mainland, despite falling agonisingly short of the finish.
Close friends James Weight and Ben Morrison-Jack braved giant swells on their 12-hour trip from the island across the 259 kilometre (161 mile) Bass Strait before winds dropped off just one kilometre from their goal.
