A SURFING competition that “outed” South Australia’s West Coast as a world-class big-wave destination has caused a war among locals.
The Fantastic Noodles Intense Wave Invitational ’09 near Streaky Bay – held late last month – was preceded by weeks of threats and rumours in a community that has spent years trying to prevent its coastline from becoming crowded.
Police were called in after one local organiser woke to find his letterbox had been blown up.
Jeff Schmucker, whose son Josiah, 17, came second in the competition, said it was a “sizeable explosion” that could have caused serious injury to the culprit…Â Details
