Alex de Angelis became the first motorcycle rider to break the 200 mph barrier at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The San Marino resident joined Tom Sneva as Indy racers who were first to reach that speed. Sneva did it on four wheels, though, touching 200 mph in qualifying for the 1977 Indy 500.

De Angelis hit 200 three different times Sunday going through the speed trap near the start-finish line. His record time was a 201.3 on lap 19. But the 25-year-old was more satisfied with his runner-up finish to Spain’s Jorge Lorenzo—his first podium finish in the series.
