Chris Vecsey did something on July 24 that few fishermen anywhere, let alone off the Alabama coast, will ever achieve.
He hooked, fought, landed and successfully released an estimated 125- to 130-pound tarpon while fishing from a kayak.
“While she’s not quite the biggest tarpon I’ve caught, I’m more proud of this one than any other,” the 25-year-old Foley resident said of his first such catch from his kayak.
Coming off 13 straight days of work, Vecsey eagerly slid his 12½-foot Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game boat off the beach near Little Lagoon Pass (West Pass) and paddled alone onto the Gulf’s warm waters around 7 a.m. that Friday… Details
