Normally, the skateboarders of Fairfax County shred halfpipes and grind rails to sharpen their skills or to showcase talent. For the third consecutive year, however, they will lace up their shoes and tighten their trucks for a different reason: charity.
The 2009 Skate Fest, presented by Fairfax Surf Shop, takes place Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, at Wakefield Skate Park and will once again welcome skateboarders of all ages and skill levels to help in the quest to have fun and raise money for the Children’s National Medical Center.
Started three years ago by Dan Callahan, owner of the Fairfax Surf Shop and DMC Companies, the event began as a way for him to give back to the people who helped save his son’ s life… Details
