Under the lights at Marquette Mountain, sophomore Steven Stidham was gliding down a rail on his snowboard at the Jam for Love competition, when one of his bindings broke. After rolling and stumbling to the bottom of the hill, he threw caution to the wind and climbed to top of the hill to take another try at the rails and jumps.
“My girlfriend was here, so I didn’t want to be a quitter, and I didn’t want to stop because my board’s broke, so I just kept riding with one foot in,” he said. “A lot of the riders I like to watch do a lot of one-footed stuff, so I was like, ‘This is what God’s given me, so this what I’m going to do.’ I love to snowboard whether I’ve got both feet in or one foot. Just in general, I love to ride.”
Love was in the air for the event as Stidham was competing in the open/amateurs division of the Jam for Love held on Saturday. …Â More info
