The United States and Formula One are words rarely spoken in the same breath. But one place where they have long tended to come together is at the Monaco Grand Prix, the crown jewel of the season, which will be run Sunday in this principality on the Mediterranean.
Perhaps because of Grace Kelly, the American actress who married Prince Rainier III to form one of the 20th century’s most glamorous couples, or because of John Frankenheimer’s 1966 film, “Grand Prix,†with an opening scene in Monaco, or because of the movie stars who drop in from the nearby Cannes Film Festival, there has been an American link to the race.
