Walk north over the Arlington Street Bridge in Reno, and as you are crossing look to your right at the Truckee River down below.
You’ll probably see local professional Stephen Wright in his yellow kayak, twisting in the rapids.
Like many local kayakers, the 31-year-old is preparing for the 6th annual Reno River Festival that starts today at Wingfield Park. But for Wright, preparing and training for the festival feels like something else.
“(I’m) doing a lot of paddling getting ready for (the Reno River Festival),†Wright said. “But it’s all just fun. It’s not really training as much as going out and playing and trying to do as much as possible. It’s hard to consider it training when you are just having a good time.â€
