 NASCAR’s latest attempt to tap into a younger, more tech-savvy fan base comes in a form of a social networking site for Kevin Harvick, the popular NASCAR driver of the Richard Childress Racing number 29 Shell Pennzoil Chevrolet Impala SS car.

Based on the Ning platform, the Fan Central website was launched by a media solutions provider TrendyMinds, allowing users to create personalized pages, post to forums and blogs, chat online, share and comment on pictures and videos, create groups and Twitter feeds, and even stream music. Since its January 2009 launch, it has amassed 1800 members, adding about 170 new users daily.
