A jet boat driver and his navigator were lucky to walk away from a spectacular crash on the Gold Coast today – but somehow still managed to crack a joke after the high-speed crash and flip.
Driver Anthony Giustozzi and navigator Lachie Warner were roaring along during the V8 superboat champs just south of the Gold Coast, when the incident occurred.
Speeding around the course in a machine that can reach 100km/h in two seconds, the pair clipped the edge of the course during a turn, sending the boat into the air before it flipped three times.
As they pirouetted through the air, Warner’s hand flailed around helplessly before the boat slid to a halt on a bank upside down.
As helpers arrived, hurriedly shouting at each other to get the pair out, Giustozzi and Warner gave an unexpected reaction, laughing together before Giustozzi told the worried crew: “All good boys, just flip us over.”
