‘Godfather of BMX,’ Scot Breithaupt, found dead

Scot Breithaupt, one of the most influential figures in the birth of BMX as a sport, was found dead at age 57 in Indio, California over the weekend. Breithaupt’s body was found in a tent in a vacant lot on Saturday morning.

“The man credited with creating organized BMX racing — the Godfather of BMX — was recently found dead,” Ryan Fudger of TRANSWORLD RIDE BMX wrote in a post. “I only met Scot briefly, and his time of influence was long before I was smart enough to realize it, but he truly was a pioneer on every level and it’s very clear that without him, BMX would not be what it is today.
