Last weekend, Team Boogie Woogie completed their crossing in 96 days, 20 hours and 15 minutes, arriving at English Harbour in daylight to a warm welcome. The Danish pair of Ole Elmer and Brian Heron were actually on a cycling trip a few years ago when they first heard about ocean rowing, after a chance meeting with Tori Holmes and George Simpson, also cycling, who both rowed the Atlantic in 2005. Conditions have turned nasty for Australia’s Jessica Watson as she gets closer to completing an around-the-world sailing odyssey that began last October.
Watson, 16, who is trying to become the youngest person to solo-circumnavigate the planet in a sailboat, is inside home waters aboard her 34-foot pink sloop, but has spent the past several days enduring 50-knot winds and dodging electrical storms, while attempting to pass beneath Australia toward Tasmania.Â
