The Best Moments of Canoe Sprint in OThis article discusses canoe sprint and canoe marathon, competitive forms of canoeing and kayaking on more or less flat water. Both sports are governed by the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
Canoe sprint, which is referred to by the IOC as “canoe/kayak sprint”, is one of the two forms of the canoeing disciplines that are featured in the Summer Olympics, the other being canoe slalom. Marathon racing is not an Olympic sport. In non-Olympic years, the main events are the World Championships. Canoe racing combined with map navigation is called Canoe orienteering.
PLYMOUTH — This year’s Great River Race will be a true tale of the tape for three veteran kayakers from Plymouth.
Alex Russo, Dave Arruda and Brett Muirhead, co-workers at Billington Sea Kayak, spent the last month building a duct tape kayak to enter into the annual race up the North River.
Russo will pilot the 19-foot pink and gray boat in the Aug. 18 race.

British solo sailor, Alex Thomson has smashed the single-handed monohull transatlantic record, by more than 24 hours, crossing the finish line at Lizard Point, off Falmouth in Cornwall, in time to get back for the London Olympic Opening ceremony. The 38 year old sailor crossed the line at 17:17GMT (18:17 BST) setting the new time at 8 days 22 hours 8 minutes, beating the previous record, subject to ratification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council, which had been held for 10 years.
