For the action sports industry in 2009, it’s all about keeping your head above water.
Already struggling with a glut of inventory, the $14.4 billion industry is forecasting sales to fall as much as 25 percent this year. Some surfboard makers say their business is down 30 percent to 40 percent as consumers put off larger purchases.

James Stewart extended his early domination of the supercross season with his fifth consecutive win Saturday night in Anaheim.
As light rain fell on Angel Stadium, Stewart crossed the finish line nearly four seconds ahead of archrival Chad Reed to win the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series race in front of 43,812.
But Reed, the reigning series champion, continued to hold a three-point lead over Stewart in this year’s title standings.
“The track got so slippery that you just had to be smart,” Stewart said.
