daveFifty nine year old San Francisco Bay Area native Dave Schaub is going on the trip of a lifetime this fall. The Los Gatos, California resident and founder of Schaub’s Meat, Fish and Poultry located in Palo Alto, California will set out Tuesday, September 8th to drive his 1932 Ford hot rod roadster through all 49 continental United States in just nine days. That’s 9,800 miles in just 216 hours. For every mile he travels, Schaub is encouraging followers and supporters to donate a penny or more to the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford.

An experienced adventurist with many years of cross country hot rod journeys under his belt, Schaub is supremely confident he can go the distance. “I’m doing this because people said it couldn’t be done and I’ve always wanted to find a cool way to help some kids in need,” he said. “It’s going to be hard. It will be the ultimate reliability run to test the mettle of me and my machine. Normally, the skateboarders of Fairfax County shred halfpipes and grind rails to sharpen their skills or to showcase talent. For the third consecutive year, however, they will lace up their shoes and tighten their trucks for a different reason: charity.

The 2009 Skate Fest, presented by Fairfax Surf Shop, takes place Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, at Wakefield Skate Park and will once again welcome skateboarders of all ages and skill levels to help in the quest to have fun and raise money for the Children’s National Medical Center.

Started three years ago by Dan Callahan, owner of the Fairfax Surf Shop and DMC Companies, the event began as a way for him to give back to the people who helped save his son’ s life…  Details

Newquay in Cornwall, the laid-back and beach drenched capital of the British surf scene, will for the fifth year be hosting The Queen of the Surf – an all women’s surf day on Sunday 19th July in aid of Cancer Research UK.

With the stunning backdrop of Newquay’s famous surf spot, Fistral beach, the day will be a chance for women to learn the basics or improve their surfing technique with top instructors and whilst having fun will be able to give something back to such a worthwhile charity.

The ‘Queen of the Surf’ day is being organised by Hibiscus Surf School and sponsored by Sola UK who have kindly donated goody bags for each of the women attending to take away as a reward for their hard days surfing.
