coyote-riderWHITE SALMON — Trails in the Coyote Wall-Catherine Creek area would be cut from 37 to 26 miles under the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area’s proposed plan for the popular hiking-mountain bike spot in western Klickitat County.

The Forest Service unveiled the plan and gathered public comment on Tuesday. A copy of the environmental assessment may be downloaded at www.fs.fed.us/r6/columbia/projects.

The agency has been working its way through the federal planning process since late 2007 for almost 4,700 acres it owns…  More info

When it comes to bicycles, now the operative word is “functional”.

Inside the Woodstock Bike Gallery store, up front by the entrance, are the bicycles that sell well these days — and they aren’t mountain bikes.

Does anyone know how the rash of “Day In The Life” videos got started anyway? Not that it’s truly important, but I seem to notice it popping up more and more these days. I hate to even bring it up, but did it start with the BMX version of 411 video magazine? Remember that thing? Good in theory, good riding, good people, good music and pretty good videos all around. But since the people behind the project weren’t BMXers, it sometimes didn’t translate so well. Remember the infamous Brian Castillo bow-legged table cover?

The cover that basically told everyone in BMX, “411 doesn’t know what they’re doing.” I mean, we all know Castillo can lay a proper tabletop any day of the week in his sleep…  More info

Dave Brailsford today called for his team’s success in the Beijing Olympics to be converted into increased participation across the UK in the run-up to the London Games in 2012.
