Eric Swenson, an icon in the skateboarding culture and a co-founder of Thrasher magazine, died Monday in San Francisco. He was 64.
Mr. Swenson shot and killed himself in front of the Mission police station, according to police.

Skateboard trucks, just like skateboard wheels and decks, have undergone significant design changes over the years. In the 1950s and 1960s skateboard trucks were actually part of roller skate assemblies. Unfortunately, the roller skate assemblies did not afford skateboarders much in the way of turning radius, stability, control and speed. Thankfully, that all changed.
