Colorado Springs, Colo. (September 24, 2013) — USA Cycling on Tuesday announced the dates and locations for 13 of its 17 2014 national championship events.
From Jan. 8-12, the 2014 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships will be held at Valmont Park in Boulder, Colo.
The first road national championship is slated for May 2-4, when the USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships will be in Richmond, Va., doubling as a test event for the 2015 UCI Road World Championships. It’s with considerable interest that Gizmag has followed cyclist Graeme Obree’s latest quest to break the human-powered speed record on his self-designed and self-built bicycle, Beastie. On Friday at the World Human Speed Championships at Battle Mountain, Nevada, Obree finally made the attempt. Though he fell short of that ultimate record, he did break the world prone record (for cycling head first, face down) with an impressive speed of 56.62 mph (91 km/h). Yet the overall speed record was broken during the event, by a team from the Delft University of Technology and VU University Amsterdam.

Is putting your bike in a box the most stressful thing a cyclist can do? Breaking your hard-earned pride and joy into pieces, putting these into a case and handing it over to a baggage handler is the most gut wrenching thing I’ve had to do as a cyclist.
