Lindsey Vonn gets her chance Wednesday to become the first American woman to capture two World Cup overall titles.

She enters the downhill in this week’s season finals leading Maria Riesch by 369 points with four races left and 400 points at stake. She needs to finish sixth or better—or ahead of the German—to capture her second straight overall crown.

Tamara McKinney was the only previous U.S. woman to take the overall, in 1983. Vonn has surpassed McKinney’s World Cup victory total and now holds the women’s U.S. record with 20….  Details

In less than a month the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame will be visiting Park City. On Saturday, April 4 former U.S. Ski Team members Cary Adgate, Nelson Carmichael, and Liz McIntyre, along with big mountain skiing legend Bill Briggs, will enter the National Hall of Fame at ceremonies to be held at Utah’s Deer Valley Resort. All four inductees will be on hand and will be skiing in the area throughout the weekend. …  Details

It’s been 10 years since Carla “Jo” Elmore has seen snow, but now she is reminded of it every day.

Two weeks ago she and husband, Tony Bernasconi, put up a privacy fence in their backyard made up of about 350 snow skis. The printed sides of the black skis face the backyard of the squash-colored house. Each ski reads “ORION” in neon green, orange and purple letters. The back of the skis are a black, dark gray color and face NW 39th Avenue.

How the couple’s ski fence came about is the result of a tight budget and an imaginative boss.

The original fence was damaged in the 2004 hurricanes. Then when another one blew through town a few years ago, a huge tree in the backyard fell and finished off the fence as well as the couple’s greenhouse….  Details

Mt. Baldy: Average Joe snowboarders and free-skiers will get the opportunity to compete against everyone from the best riders in the country to their next door neighbors at an upcoming event at Mt. Baldy.

The “Money N Tha Bank” throwdown rail jam on Saturday is a grassroots competition for all ages and rider levels at the ski area known for its challenging terrain and wide open bowls.

“We call it a throw down because anything goes,” said event organizer Nick Ciotti.
