Two North Bay business owners are so passionate about bicycles, they’re helping thousands of people in Africa take the ride of their lives.

Ken Martin and Matt Adams have received 15 to 20 used bicycles as donations each day.  These bicycles are kept piled high in their San Rafael warehouse before being delivered to the other side of the globe.

Their warehouse belongs to the nine-store popular Bay Area chain called Mike’s Bikes that Martin and Adams own.

St. Wendel, German (January 29, 2011) — Danny Summerhill (Centennial, Colo./Garmin) finished 13th in the U23 men’s contest to led the U.S. team on day one of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in St. Wendel, Germany on Saturday. Sixteen-year-old Andrew Dillman (Fairdale, Ky.) led the American juniors with a 21st place finish. Both riders suffered mid-race mishaps causing them to fall from lead groups on the fast, but slick course.

What a cop-out.

In taking the mushy middle ground of a proposed one-year doping ban for Alberto Contador, Spanish cycling officials are timidly sitting on the fence.

They’re apparently signaling that they believe the Tour de France champion’s story that tainted beef caused his failed drug test, but they’re shying away from the far tougher decision on whether to clear him completely.

If he doped, then Contador should be banished for two years, not one. That’s the rule  …  Details

USA Cycling released today the selection procedures that will be used to determine the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. The procedures outline the selection process across all four Olympic disciplines – Road, Mountain Bike, Track and BMX.

The selection procedures outline: prioritized automatic and discretionary selection criteria, key dates including any tryout events and long-team qualification period, maximum team size and more. The only discipline set to include an Olympic Trials event is men’s BMX where one of three maximum spots will be determined at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calf. on June 16, 2012   …  Details
