USA Cycling teamed up with GT Bicycles to host the first of four camps in 2009 to be a part of a USA Cycling’s new BMX Junior Development Program. Seventeen 15-16 year-old men and women were invited to the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., Feb. 1-6 to take part in the first camp of its kind.

Nine of the top young men in the sport of BMX and eight of the best young women arrived on the campus of the Olympic Training Center on Sunday where they were greeted by USA Cycling BMX Director Mike King and USA Cycling BMX coaches Brian Fell and Jeff Glynn, and later Jerry Bradford. Eighteen months ago Paris announced that they were going to be initiating a bike-sharing program that would see 15,000 specially designed bikes made available on the streets of the city for people to use freely. Since that time the bikes have been used 42 million times, but almost all of the original vandal proof bikes have had to be replaced.
It appears that a lot of the people using the bikes like to abuse or destroy them as some of the bikes have been found hanging from lampposts, dumped in the Seine River, smashed and burned. Apparently there are even videos online of people treating them as BMX bikes as they ride them down stairs.

In the year 2000, Mat Hoffman and the HSA crew organized a run of contests known as the Crazy Freakin’ Biker Series, or CFB for short.
