On Saturday, Phillips Elementary School students Jesus Garcia, Ruby Vazquez and Emmanuel Hernandez climbed into an outrigger boat on the Napa River with their principal, a teacher and a steersman from Napa’s Ohana Wa’a Outrigger Canoe Center.
The canoe and three other 40-foot-long outrigger boats were preparing to race a half-mile on the Napa River near the Napa Valley Yacht Club after last-minute instructions from club members.
