When tragedy struck a Girl Scout troop here, the girls stepped up to help a fellow scout’s family.
Troop leader Jennie Perrottet, 44, of Berlin Township, had a massive heart attack early in the morning on Jan. 14.
“What happened to my troop leader was tragic,” said Caitlyn Sullivan, 13, of Berlin Borough. “Earlier that night at our meeting she was fine as can be. We were talking about what to do with the cookie money and where we were going. She was going to take us on a four-day white-water rafting trip.”

LAS VEGAS – The National Park Service has reported visitation to Lake Mead National Recreation Area only decreased by about a quarter percent from 7,898,592 visitors in 2007 to 7,877,581 in 2008. The park saw an upturn in visitation this fall after a decrease over the summer months.

LAHAINA â€“ These are heady times for Lahainaluna High School and Napili Canoe Club paddling coach Joey Tihada, as both the Maui Interscholastic League and Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championship regattas will be held at Hanakaoâ€™o Beach Park (Canoe Beach) on consecutive weekends.
The MIL event was held last Saturday, and the state championships â€“ which will bring 24 Hawaii high school crews to Canoe Beach â€“ is scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 7.
