World championship leader Jenson Button will be full of confidence this weekend when he goes into the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix with an upgraded Brawn car.

The 29-year-old Briton who has won three of the opening four races of the season is a runaway leader so far in the drivers championship series and is hoping for another great result to press home his early advantage.

Fernando Alonso says he lost 12 pounds in the sweltering desert heat when racing at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Alonso’s drinking pump malfunctioned during the near two-hour race April 26, and he almost collapsed after finishing, having to be helped from the car.

“In Bahrain I had a very specific problem with not enough water in my body, because I lost 5 1/2 kilos in the race and this is obviously not normal,” the two-time Formula One champion said ahead of this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix. “It was a problem with the radiator of the car, and we had some hot gas going into the cockpit, so I burned all my back with the seat and that was taking out even more water from my body. Fernando Alonso has offered advice to former team-mate Lewis Hamilton as the Briton looks to rebuild his reputation after the recent “lie-gate” scandal.

Hamilton and McLaren narrowly avoided serious sanctions after being caught blatantly lying to race stewards in Australia and Malaysia.

But, with many claiming the row has seriously damaged Hamilton’s image, Alonso offered support to the Briton.

Formula One’s top teams have targeted Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix as a turning point in their season after being eclipsed by newcomers Brawn GP in the first four races.

Leading drivers doubted there would be any quick fix, however.

“I think not much, unfortunately,” Renault’s double world champion Fernando Alonso told a news conference at the Circuit de Catalunya when asked what he was expecting.
