It’s not easy to find statistics in surfing. With the exception of ASP number’s wiz Al Hunt and a couple other odd balls, there are no statisticians in professional surfing. Why would there be, most surfers can hardly add let alone figure out Kelly Slater’s career win/loss ratio. As if a NSSA State Championship for both the San Clemente High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Surf Teams weren’t enough cause for celebration, SCHS learned last week that the National Scholastic Surfing Association named the team’s coach, John Dowell, its “2009 National Coach of the Year.â€
