As residents in the Eastern U.S. flee the coast for safety with the looming threat of Hurricane Sandy, Californians hit the beach to strut their Halloween costumes in a surfing contest in Santa Monica on Saturday.
Scores of revelers rode the waves donning their favorite disguises in the 4th annual ‘Haunted Heats’ Halloween costume surf contest hosted by the ZJ Boarding House.
‘Santa Monica has never looked so fearsome with hoards of ghouls, ghosts and goblins crawling along the beach looking for that perfect tube! Santa Cruz County surfers won’t be completely shut out of the Coldwater Classic when it is held at Steamer Lane next week as an Association of Surfing Professionals’ World Tour event.
Jason “Ratboy” Collins was assured a spot in the lineup with the top 34 surfers in the world, as ranked by the ASP, when event and Collins’ sponsor O’Neill announced Friday it would give the well-known Westside surfer one of two wild-card slots in the contest.
