In this video I hung out with my good friend Nic Laidlaw from Balanced Studio to chat about his ideas behind preparing the surfer’s body for optimal performance!
Nic brings an in-depth knowledge of human physiology to the table and couples it with a grounded awareness of people’s movement restrictions and habits!
Today Nic gave us 4 exercises to do to unwind the body from surfing and to better prepare it for getting back out in the ocean each day. By strengthening what is weak and stretching what is tight we can certainly achieve a more balanced physiology which assists us in performing our best on the waves!
Ian Walsh and Greg Long attempt surfing’s sketchiest trifecta
As if one session out at Waimea, Jaws or Mavericks isn’t enough to completely fry your nerves, Ian Walsh and Greg Long hit all three on the same swell, back-to-back-to-back, during the 2020 new year. “This is something I wanted to do for a long time,” Walsh recalls, about this big-wave strike. “It’s super rare for a swell to line up for all three waves. But given Waimea’s distance from Jaws and the timing of the arrival of this particular swell, we were able to surf Waimea in the afternoon as the surf picked up, Jaws the following morning on the peak of the energy, and then Mavericks the day after that.”
