The National Marine Fisheries Service and the Navy recently finalized marine-mammal-stranding response plans for three of the Navy’s largest training areas: the Hawaii Range Complex, the Southern California Range Complex, and the Atlantic Fleet Active Sonar Training area.
Similar stranding response plans will be developed for the Navy’s 10 remaining “at-sea” major training ranges and operating areas.

The boat-building industry continues to feel the economic crunch and one local manufacturing executive doesn’t think a stock market uptick will help much.
“The market is not firming as fast as anybody in the industry had hoped and potential buyers appear to be still frozen by ambiguity,” said Bill Naumann, chairman of Hatteras Yachts in New Bern.
