Australian sailors Simon McKeon and Tim Daddo who made history in 1993 with the Laurie Cunningham designed Yellow Pages, leapt back into the history books Thursday night when Macquarie Innovation powered down the Sandy Point speed course near Wilsons Promontory in Victoria, at an average speed of 50.43 knots.
In October 1993 McKeon and Daddo, in this same location, set a 500-metre world record of 46.52 knots that lasted of 11 years.
In 1994 they started on the build of the boat that has now become Macquarie Innovation. Cunningham came up with a new design but it was a long time in the build and it was 2001 before they got back to serious campaigning. But since 2001, the team has been plagued by light wind conditions for much of the time.

USA Water Ski is pleased to announce that former U.S. Elite Water Ski Team member Brandi Hunt (Clermont, Fla.) will spearhead USA Water Ski’s revamped GrassRoots program. Hunt, a former Masters and U.S. Open women’s overall champion, will be responsible for promoting and marketing USA Water Ski’s GrassRoots Series, including managing the annual budget, developing and executing a formal marketing plan, actively pursuing event organizers, and cultivating business partnerships.

Resorts and tequila bars are Baja California’s best-known attractions. But up the coast, the quiet waters of protected Loreto Bay hold almost 900 species of fish — and few tourists, at least for now.
With each paddle stroke, sea spray pelts my face like driving rain. In the past five minutes, I’ve barely moved along the limestone cliffs of the shore. My guide Terry Prichard — my partner in this two-man kayak — yells at the nearby boats, “Paddle back to shore!” We’ve taken too long a lunch break, and the wind has picked up: we’re fighting a strong headwind. But I don’t mind; the sky above is a sharp blue, and this morning three bottlenose dolphins passed close by our beachfront camp.
