Paddling atop a 60-foot waterfall — while inside nothing more than a glorified milk jug — Chris Korbulic’s mind calmly analyzes the speed, trajectory and technique that make kayaking over mega-waterfalls more about precision than insanity.

SPEED RECORD: The 50kt sailing barrier has been broken by a ‘conventional’ craft after Australia’s Macquarie Innovation powered down the 500m course at Sandy Point, Victoria, at an average speed of 50.43 knots.

The run, made on 26 March in winds of only 24 knots, saw Macquarie Innovation reach a maximum speed of 54.23 knots (100km/hr) and become the first sailing boat in the world to complete an official 500m run in excess of 50 knots.

Two Australian sailors have just broken the speed barrier of 50 knots in their sailing boat Macquarie Innovation, whilst a British engineer has become the fastest human on earth powered by the wind alone, in a land sailing boat.

On the morning of 26 March on the ‘dry’ Lake Ivanpah in California, USA, The Greenbird, driven by British engineer Richard Jenkins, smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles.

The Greenbird clocked 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h) , eclipsing the old, American held, record of 116 mph, set by Bob Schumacher in the Iron Duck in March 1999 at the same location…
