pwcAfter traveling all the way from Vega-Baja, Puerto Rico, for a few days of personal watercraft racing in Central Florida, Julio Rivera will be going home a record holder.

During the HydroDrag Spring Nationals on Sunday, Rivera blazed down the C-54 canal in South Brevard at 100.5 mph —
the fastest speed ever officially recorded by a personal watercraft rider.

“The feeling of going that fast . . . is indescribable. It takes a lot of nerve,” said the 36-year old Rivera. “The competition is really tough, and these races get better every year. The speed and the adrenaline rush keep me coming back for more.” …  Details

Kai Bartlett and wife Lauren Bartlett overcame grueling conditions to emerge victorious in the Steinlager Kaiwi Solo OC1 World Championship race today.

Kai Bartlett won the 32-mile race from Kaluako’i Moloka’i, to Koko Marina, O’ahu, in 5 hours, 12 minutes, 22 seconds.

Lauren won the women’s division with a time of 6:03:47.

Strong headwinds and a calm Kaiwi Channel made for a difficult race for all competitors.

The halfway point on leg six of the Volvo Ocean Race has been reached and long-term leader, Telefónica Blue is in the enviable position of being able to watch the battle unfold over 100 miles behind them.

‘We have been keeping pace with the guys behind which gives us some comfort, although we are still pushing hard to maintain our position,’ noted helmsman Simon Fisher.

Telefónica Blue is at the same latitude as the island of Trinidad, but 1000 nm to the east and 1100 nm from the Caribbean island of Antigua.
