America’s Cup Defender, Société Nautique de Genève (SNG), statement in reaction to the latest Golden Gate Yacht Club legal action: ‘It is again a disappointment that the Golden Gate Yacht Club (GGYC) chooses to pursue its litigious strategy instead of fighting for the America’s Cup on the water.
It is now the fourth time the American team goes to court, this time in an attempt to prevent the SNG’s legitimate right to use its yacht club rules – as prescribed in the Deed of Gift – and the ISAF rules and regulations to their full extent, as it has been the case in previous editions of the America’s Cup and in any international regatta in the world.

In the 158-year history of the America’s Cup, no boat ever had an engine — until last week, when the Swiss launched Alinghi, a 100-foot catamaran that is to defend the cup against a 100-foot American trimaran somewhere in the world on Feb. 8.
A snowmobile engine on the catamaran, which has two hulls like a Hobie Cat, will be used to trim Alinghi’s sails in a three-race series with BMW-Oracle’s trimaran, which has three hulls.
Even though it doesn’t supply propulsion, the engine appears to be a blatant violation of international racing rules that ban sail-trimming devices not cranked by human power.

Golden Gate Yacht Club has lodged a compliant and obtained a Hearing in the New York Supreme Court, for next Tuesday, over a secret agreement that has been signed between the International Sailing federation and Societe Nautique de Geneve regarding the conduct of the 33rd America’s Cup.
Golden Gate allege that ISAF have been paid UKP150,000 by SNG under the secret agreement.
Other issues raised include the rules which are operative for the 33rd America’s Cup, and SNG’s ability to alter those rules at will, and without reference to the Challenger. Of primary concern are the rules relating to use of movable water ballast and use of engine power, which are restricted pr prohibited by the Racing Rules (20054-2008 edition).

Zapcat Racing this weekend headed to Plymouth for Rounds 7 & 8 of the Zapcat National Championship. 25 Zapcat teams from the World’s largest one design championship made the journey and were faced with a mixed bag of conditions that provide fast and furious racing action.
Saturday saw teams faced with torrential rain and gusting winds providing the worst conditions the racers had faced this season. The tight tactical course just metres away from the harbour wall provided a fantastic racing course leaving the Zapcat teams with no room for error in their game plans.
