There’s plenty going on this Labor Day weekend on the Big Island!
The Queen Lili’uokalani Long-Distance Canoe Races are the world’s largest outrigger canoe races. This year marks the 38th year Kai’Opua has sponsored these canoe races. All but the kane (men) race on Saturday start at Kailua Pier.
Saturday’s 18-mile races feature men (Kane) and women (Wahine) competing in their respective divisions, racing six-person crews (iron, no changes, no escort boats) and 9-person (non-iron, change) crews.

Austrian Hannes Bohinc and his Wettpunkt.com team were denied victory in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes when a ruptured fuel tank forced them to retire 1.5 miles short of the finish after almost four hours of gruelling race action.

A 47-year-old man from Lancashire has completed an 85-day challenge to paddle his kayak 1,700 miles (2,736km) around the British Isles for charity.
Eric Innes, from Kirkham, landed at Blackpool lifeboat station at 1530 BST after finishing his mammoth paddle, which began on 6 June.
So far his journey has raised over £16,000 for the Help the Heroes charity for injured soldiers… Details
