With the New York courts unable or unwilling to entertain any more suits or make any further decisions before the race deadline, it appears that the 33rd America’s Cup will be run on time after all. Weather permitting, the racing is scheduled to begin on the 8th of February in Valencia, Spain. Of course, nobody expects the outcome of the race to be final, and which ever team ends up winning will do so under a cloud of doubt, and can almost certainly look forward to a rough stretch of lawsuits ahead. In June, 2010, Greg Kolodziejzyk will attempt to become the first person in history to navigate this notorious stretch of ocean under his own power. His plan pedal a custom-made state-of-the-art human-powered boat 3000 miles across the Pacific Ocean, from Victoria, Canada to Hawaii. The world-record attempt is expected to take between 40 to 80 days.

Atlantic and Pacific Oceans – Sixteen-year-old Abby Sunderland has thrown her hat in the “youngest around” ring by sailing off Saturday, and the Southern California girl is now chasing Australian Jessica Watson around the world. Meanwhile, Jessica is already half way home, and having rounded the notorious Cape Horn, is well on her way to attaining her goal of being the youngest person in history to achieve a solo, non-stop voyage around the world.
