Oracle Team USA has started the countdown to launching its first AC72 wingsailed catamaran this week.

Friday 31 August is the first scheduled sailing day for the boat that will play a central role in the San Francisco team’s bid to win the America’s Cup again next year.

Today, the giant 12 story high wing was lifted at Pier 80 in a successful test of the new ground handling systems.

‘This was one tick in a very long check-list of essential steps before the boat can go into the water,’ said Mark Turner, shore manager.

International Jet Sport Boating Association European Championships final round was held in Austria where Anya Colley, 20 from Long Eaton, has retained her title as European Champion.

Anya, known as the ‘Pink Lady’, has raced in Belgium, Portugal and Austria in the IJSBA European Championship tour and says she has had a great seasons racing this year although could have done without the added pressure in the last round!

The luster of the AC World Series San Francisco still radiates two days after racing ended. The debut of wingsail catamaran racing on the Bay has generated great excitement throughout the host city of the 2013 America’s Cup.

Christopher Owen says that when he was battling addiction, there were times he didn’t want to live.

Saturday, he said, as he arrived in Two Harbors after completing a 22-mile kayak crossing of Lake Superior, he never felt more alive.

Owen and two other men with ties to the Minnesota Teen Challenge addiction treatment program in Duluth successfully completed their “Crossing Over” Lake Superior traverse Saturday morning.
