Guam – Men on the remote Pacific Atoll of Lamotrek are hard at work, carving and shaping a massive sailing canoe. In addition to preserving their native traditions, they may be carving their way into the record books as they work under a tarp by the open-air mens’ house on the beach.

Most everyone who spends time on the water has seen them at one time or another, those ear splitting, brightly colored powerboats that skip across the water at break neck speeds. They can be the most dangerous and powerful racing machines known to man in large part due to the speeds they can attain, the highly volatile fuel needed to power the craft and the unique design and balance of the hulls built to withstand ever changing elements of wind and water. A finely tuned balance needs to be maintained to max out speed to the point of possible wipeout.
The third Outpeformer mini doc follows Miss GEICO’s boat pilot, Marc Granet, to chronicle what it takes to command a championship winning team and drive a boat capable of speeds in excess of 210 miles per hour, over open ocean and choppy waterways.
US Sailing Rolex Award Ceremony 2013. At an emotional ceremony today at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, Johnny Heineken (Larkspur, Calif.) and Jennifer French (St. Petersburg, Fla.) were celebrated as US Sailing’s 2012 Rolex Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year. If you think sailing means sitting on a boat with one hand on the helm and another on a cocktail, meet Johnny Heineken.
You could call the Marin County native a daredevil for the way he can practically fly across the water on a kiteboard. As of Tuesday, you can also call him the 2012 Rolex Yachtsman of the Year.

Have you ever seen an entire river? This is a 113 day journey down the Green and Colorado Rivers, from source to sea. We started in the Wind River Mountains, Wyoming in October 2011, and finished at the Sea of Cortez, Mexico in January 2012. The river begins as a trickle, carves ever deeper and more spectacular canyons, and is reduced to a trickle again by water diversions.
