An American investment consortium led by HIG Capital has reportedly moved to acquire Germany’s famed Nurburgring race complex.

The firm is said to have submitted an acquisition proposal to the German competition regulator, the Federal Cartel Office, for a significant portion of the Nurburgring’s assets, according to Reuters.

The group is allegedly preparing to pay no more than 60-70 million euros (~$83.4-$97.3 million USD) for the complex, representing approximately half of the initial asking price of 125 million euros (~$174 million USD) in March of last year.

It turns out six decades of collecting dust may have been just what the Indian motorcycle brand needed.

Polaris (PII), which resurrected the nameplate in August with three new bikes, said this morning that “pent-up demand” has fueled a slew of orders for the first models rolling out of factories. An economic impact study conducted by Squamish’s off-road cycling association suggests the community benefits to the tune of $8 million in direct spending thanks to mountain bike riders.

Volunteers with the mountain bike club generated this figure by interviewing 451 bike riders over the Labour Day long weekend at three popular trails in the Squamish area. As well, automated counters were installed on the trails. The counters tallied 1,339 bike riders on the three trails over the course of the long weekend.

Erik Buell’s motorcycle assembly line has been running about a month, and already Buell is worried about not having enough space as he ramps up production and kicks his engineering efforts into overdrive.

“These are wonderful problems to have,” Buell says as he walks through the plant where the first Erik Buell Racing production motorcycles are being assembled for delivery in February.
