Confederate Motorcycles, the bike maker that moved to Birmingham from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, said Thursday and that it might offer an entry-level model to go along with its expensive and limited edition mainstays.
The maker of motorcycles that sell for up to $100,000 also said Wednesday that it has merged with a publicly traded Canadian company that at one time mined copper, but which had ceased all operations. Confederate said shares will begin trading on the public market.

Last summer’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb weather was hot, dry, and windy and it caused headaches for a chunk of the competitors who battled the 14,115-foot Peak’s challenges.
Not so for David Kern and co-driver Allison Kern of Centennial, Colorado, who rocketed their way to the finish line in a record 11:48.434 to run away with the Time Attack 4WD crown in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. That broke the old mark (12:49.064 by Nathan Conley, 2007) by more than one minute and beat their closest competitor by nearly 40 seconds.

Hundreds turned out in Santa Monica, Calif. Saturday night to watch two worlds of rebellion collide when a band of low brow artists—including Shepard Fairey—displayed what rebellion means to them at a public gallery opening titled The Art of Rebellion – all to celebrate a coming out party for Harley-Davidson’s latest dark ride, the Iron 883â„¢ motorcycle.
The public was invited to get a first look at the Iron 883 with a backdrop of a gallery opening and reception on Feb. 7 at the Robert Berman Gallery. Ten artists displayed a custom-painted Harley-Davidson gas tank in the event’s theme. The first 200 guests received copies of a limited edition Shepard Fairey poster.

The 2009 Superbike World Championship promises to be more exciting than ever, with BMW Motorrad Motorsport making its debut in the ultra-competitive series and taking on no less than six other manufacturers, four Japanese and two European. Although this is BMW’s first attempt in World Superbikes, their racing heritage goes back 86 years, starting with their R 32 motorcycle in 1923. Since then BMWs have raced successfully on the Isle of Man and at other world-famous racetracks and have enjoyed many successes.
