Time off doesn’t mean time wasted. From Miguel Pupo bungie jumping off one of the world’s highest bridges, Kolohe and Nat having the most competitive game of backgammon in history, safari tours and fun lay day waves, we’d say it was a pretty good stint in South Africa.
For the third summer in a row, the greatest mini-transition riders from around the globe made the trek to Mt. Hood for the Merrill Minipipe Invitational. Forty-four competitors joined the event’s creator, Bode Merrill in the High Cascade park in order to throw down on the ten-foot walls of the pristine pipe. After a two-run format early on followed by an afternoon jam session, the overall top three winners had been decided. Austen Sweetin came out on top, Red Gerard took second, and Chad Otterstrom took third in a podium that aptly represented the legendary, the up and coming, and the current state in snowboarding–all killing it, of course. Only at the MMPI.
