While England’s Gary Hunt is crowned Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series Champion for the 5th time, the American wins for the first time in 2015. The 30-year-old surged to victory in Bilbao, in one of the tightest World Series finals yet. With champion Gary Hunt failing to make the podium, it was Florida-based LoBue who snatched the chance with some sensational diving from 27.5m. Joining him on the podium in front of 60,000 enthusiastic spectators were Colombia’s Orlando Duque in 2nd place, and Blake Aldridge from England in 3rd.
Is Red Bull Unleashed a taste of the future of competitive surfing?
More than 2,000 spectators turned out on Saturday 19th September to see the world’s first ever stadium-style surfing event, Red Bull Unleashed.
The final eight riders went head-to-head at Surf Snowdonia’s artificial wave pool, a revolutionary lagoon which opened in August 2015 in North Wales. Crowd favourite Albee Layer (HAW) became the first ever Red Bull Unleashed champion, after a string of spectacular displays carried him to victory over the plucky Billy Stairmand (NZL).
