It was a busy winter on Hawaii’s North Shore for Eric Sterman, a master of aerial cinematography. Sterman was one of the first people to see the beauty in shooting surfing from above, and his work has inspired a thriving new genre in surf media. Nothing captures the intensity of Pipe’s wave and crowd all in one frame like a drone can, but getting that shot is not as easy as it might seem – it takes a pilot’s steady hand and a photographer’s keen eye. Sterman’s got the skills and these 45 seconds of crisp, stunning footage prove it.
