The ultimate kick-off into the winter and snow park season at Kaunertal Glacier, Austria. Kaunertal Opening 2016 from October 07 to 09 provides lots of news in an action-packed schedule promising a new half mile Jibline, Amateur Contest, Pro Contests, Rail Session, Mini Ramp, Testival and a music festival – just more typical Kaunertal Opening stuff! In the course of the previous years, the season kick-off at Tirol’s Kaunertal valley has seen an extraordinary development in all things athletic. Many top-notch international freeskiers and snowboarders entered the Pro Contest showing extraordinary performances.

On a normal MTB ride in Capitol State Forest, WA, somebody target shooting was “unknowingly” firing across one of the most used trails in the forest. As soon as we realized how close the shots were, we heard at least two zip past just ahead of us seemingly at head level. They sound was apparent and “felt” close, the GoPro barely picked up the audio, so I increased the volume for the first two. With headphones you can hear them in the original clip, prior to me cranking up the volume. After reflecting for a couple days about this incident, we were actually really close to catching a bullet. I kinda regret that we did not confront this person directly with cameras and give them a solid tongue lashing and post their faces to social media, they got off easy. Please learn a lesson from this if you shoot for fun in the forest.
FYI, I have nothing against guns or target shooting, but this person was breaking multiple rules of recreational shooting and common sense!
After a weekend of intense racing on the legendary Wellerbrücke rapids in Austria’s Ötztal valley, 25-year old Aniol Serrasolses from Bescano in Spain and 26-year old Sandra Hyslop from Loughborough, Great Britain claimed their first adidas Sickline Extreme Kayak World Champion title, ahead of Sam Sutton (NZL) and Nouria Newman (FRA) taking silver and Dane Jackson (USA) and Martina Wegman (NED) winning bronze.
