A crew of Maui big wave surfers – led by Ian Walsh and Billy Kemper – didn’t disappoint hundreds of locals lining the cliff overlooking the wave also known as Jaws, at the 2017 Pe’ahi Challenge. The Maui Boys dominated Round One, with two other Valley Isle natives, Albee Layer and Kai Lenny, joining Walsh and Kemper in the Semifinals. Here’s a slice of some of the day’s best best action.

Born and raised in the world of motocross, Jaydin Smart is already outstripping older competitors and his parents believe he is on his way to a sparkling professional career. Jaydin’s parents – Jocelyn and Patrick Smart – are also motocross lovers and the family live on a stretch of land in California, which has their very own race tracks to practice on.
