Summer is nearly here, so They Will Surf Again enthusiasts can rejoice knowing LRO’s first adaptive surfing event is just around the corner – May 3 at Bolsa Chica State Beach! From California to New Jersey and down the coast to Florida, LRO has even added a couple more stops for 2009: Cape May, NJ and Santa Cruz, CA. (See the full schedule on the right)

THE father of a boy with a heart condition is travelling the length of Ireland – on a skateboard.

Alan Smyth, of Milton Road, Cambridge, hopes to be the first person to skate the 400 miles from Mizen Head in the south to Malin Head in the north, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Irish Heart Foundation.

Mr Smyth’s son Mylo was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve before he was born but remarkably his diagnosis improved greatly after birth.

Lowe’s Motor Speedway will honor Autism Awareness Month by contributing $10 from every ticket sold to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and Coca-Cola 600 from April 3-11 to Autism Speaks.

“Autism affects millions of families around the world, including many of our great fans,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “We’ve worked with local non-profit groups that help children with autism and their families through Speedway Children’s Charities. Now we’ve decided to significantly expand those efforts to help Autism Speaks increase awareness of the disorder and raise funds to help find a cure.”

Bonaire windsurf pro, Elton “Taty” Frans raced from Bonaire to Curacao on March 29. He successfully beat the previous record of 4 hours by arriving in Jan Thiel 2 hours and 15 minutes after departing BOPEC in Bonaire.

Taty was racing to raise money for Erwin Muller, a dive master and the 4 hour record holder for the sail from Bonaire to Curacao almost twenty years ago. Muller suffered a massive stroke in Jan. and has been in Curacao for medical treatment. Erwin needs rehab and home modifications all very costly.

Because Erwin is a former windsurfer it made sense to have a windsurf fundraiser… Details
