Riders for Health, the official charity of MotoGP, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, have announced that 50 lucky motorcycle racing fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a “Day of Stars” for a unique insider’s look at the 2009 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. “Day of Stars” is hosted by Riders co-founder and MotoGP legend Randy Mamola and offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at MotoGP racing. The day-long event takes place on Thursday, July 2, before the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway. The “Day of Stars” is a benefit for Riders for Health, the international charity that provides transportation for health care delivery in Africa.

LEADERBRAND Wainui Surf Lifesaving Club is launching a “public subscription” to raise funds for a new $10,000 surf canoe and to help meet costs associated with maintaining its key rescue craft – the IRBs.

The club needs to replace a canoe damaged beyond repair during last month’s national championships in Gisborne and also ensure its IRBs are kept in top order.

“Wainui is a very challenging beach at times and the IRBs we run cost thousands of dollars a season to operate effectively,” said appeal organiser Murray Robertson.

Big Stick Log Jam – Pleasure Point – Santa Cruz, CA

The annual Logjam! “Old Boards, No Cords” longboard event hosted by the Big Stick Surfing Association (BSSA)  always features a slew of talented surfers tearing it up at Pleasure Point (near the intersection of 38th Ave. and East Cliff Drive). It all goes down in front of Jack O’Neill’s home Saturday from 7am-4pm, with semis and finals to follow on Sunday at 8am-2pm.

kevinKevin Lilly wants to paddle his way to cleaner water.

The St. Petersburg native recently started a campaign to kayak the entire length of the Mississippi River to raise money for water-related charities. He called it “What About Blue?” to encourage people to think about water as a resource not to be taken for granted.

“Anywhere there’s info about water, it’s wrapped into the green movement,” he said. “We say it deserves its own movement.”
