More than two thousand supporters joined the Sheckler Foundation, its sponsors and skateboarders for Skate for a Cause at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest. The event raised enough money to fund eight more “Be the Change” grants to help kids in need and injured action sports athletes. The Sheckler Foundation’s latest “Be the Change” recipient, Carter was the guest of honor throughout the day, where he received a check for $10,000, recognition and gifts from former “Be the Change” recipients, The Ashley Wade Foundation and Peach’s Neet Feet.
The 36-year-old cycling enthusiast will be riding the entire route of the Tour de France this summer on a children’s bike — the Raleigh Chopper. Sim’s goal is to raise money for charity, while proving biking is not just for the rich.
“In the last five years, the cost of road cycling has skyrocketed, but you don’t need all that, you just need to get out and ride,” Sim told Caters News Agency. “The other side of the challenge is to raise as much money for Help for Heroes as possible.”

Freestyle motocross legend Robbie Maddison has a friend named Chris Ackerman. In March 2003, Ackerman suffered a freestyle accident at Dumont Dunes that potentially could have taken his life. He sustained a broken wrist, dislocated shoulders, collapsed lungs, shattered pelvis, broken ribs and a C-2 spinal cord injury that left him a quadriplegic.
Since then, Ackerman’s will to live has blown the mind of Maddison and everyone who knows him. In fact, Ackerman mentioned to Maddison how he would love to feel the wind in his face. This spurred the idea of putting Ackerman in a motorcycle sidecar and taking him for a ride. On a magical night recently, Ackerman in fact got to enjoy the freedom that riding bikes brings him thanks to Maddison and the close-knit FMX family.

“Chris truly does have wings for life,” said Maddison. “I am thrilled to bring a smile to his face and confirm that life is not over when you have an injury like this.”
