Just when we thought KB4C couldn’t get any better, it did.

Participants pumped up their kites and the clouds parted as 125 kiteboarders and about 20 standup paddlers took to the windy conditions and swell-blanketed waters of the Columbia for the 3rd annual event.

Through athlete fundraising, silent and live auctions, a raffle, and beer and food sales, participants raised over $58,000 for cancer programs!..  Details

In an effort to raise awareness and money for Your Life Counts, a youth suicide prevention organization, extreme rider Dale Vranckx set a new world record by riding a Sea-Doo RXT iS 255 personal watercraft 786 miles (1,265 km) in 16 hours 10 minutes. His average speed for the run was an amazing 56.7 mph (91.2 km/hr).

Starting at 5:15 a.m. on June 19, the St. Williams, Ontario native began riding his first eight-mile lap in Long Point Bay, from Booth’s Harbour Marina to Port Rowan Marina. 786 miles later Vranckx finally finished at 9:25 PM of the same day after completing an astonishing 98 laps.

“Your Life Counts is a great cause and this challenge was a great opportunity to raise awareness of their work and help save young lives,” Vranckx said. As of today, he has raised over $2,000.00 for Your Life Counts. Donations can still be made at www.yourlifecounts.org.

Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau & Longboard Invitational celebrates 16 years of ‘Surfing for a Cure’ to raise funds for cancer research.

For the past 16 years, beachgoers have been invited to watch respected surfers, business leaders, community members and cancer survivors “surfing for a cure” at the annual Moores UCSD Cancer Center Luau & Longboard Invitational held at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography. SANTA CRUZ — The surf-rock sounds of local bands Ribsys Nickel, Voodudes, Parafins and Costal Sage will help keep the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum afloat.

The band members, many of whom are surfers, have donated their performances to Surf City Rockathon, hosted by the Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation Society. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the grand ballroom of the Vets Hall.

One of several venues that lost funding after city budget cuts, the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum now depends on extra help from the community to stay open. The Santa Cruz Surfing Club has taken over operations and daily management of the museum, and has been raising money…  Details
