The Mount Wilson Bicycling Association’s 21st annual volunteer “Save the Trail” fundraiser and pancake breakfast is set for 8 a.m. April25 at the Cobb Estate, at the corner of Lake Avenue and Loma Alta Drive. Â
The event will feature free demonstrations, group mountain bike rides, bike toss and raffles for bicycle gear. Â
Breakfast is $5 and raffle tickets are $1. All proceeds will go to the association’s funds for volunteer trail maintenance.
Former pro surfer Jodie Nelson will attempt to be the first women to paddle the 40 miles from Avalon to Dana Point during Sunday’s annual Ocean Ohana Catalina Challenge to try to raise $50,000 for breast cancer research and awareness.

Kiteboarder Christopher Stuckey will kite 24 miles across Lake Ponchartrain as a participant in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Leukemia Cup Regatta the weekend of March 19th – 21st. The 2009 New Orleans Regatta, part of a series of boat races hosted across the country to raise money to fund leukemia and lymphoma research, was the first in the series to allow a non-sailing participant – Stuckey – to enter the event. Stuckey’s contribution was invaluable to the cause; he not only was the second highest grossing local fundraiser – exceeding his donation goal one month before his deadline – but his unique efforts as a kiteboarding participant garnered national attention … Details

They were mobbed by fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the surfing heroes and celebrities as they entered the water to compete in the Celebrity Surf Challenge.
