FINDING ALOHA | Friday March 27th benefit film screening with Dan Moore

 Update — Frank Quirarte, Mavericks’ Photographer to Speak on Big Wave Surfing

Pacifica Beach Coalition (PBC) and Pedro Point Surf Club invite you to a benefit screening, reception, and big raffle for “ Finding Aloha,” on Friday, March 27th, at 6:30pm and 8:30pm at the Sanchez Art Center.  Filmmaker Phil Walker took 8 years to complete it and recently won “Best Documentary” at the Honolulu International Film Festival.  Producer and co-star Dan Moore, a past Billabong XXL winner, and Pacifica’s Frank Quirarte — the prolific surf photographer known for his Mavericks’ coverage and one of the forces behind Mavsurfer.com   — will both be on hand at the screening to field questions from the audience. )

“Finding Aloha” tells a story of adventurous athletes like Layne Beachley, Dan Moore, Jimmy Hall, Vetea David and Mark Andersen, who find the key to harmony in the Hawaiian islands. They discover, and nurture, aloha. ( more

After a motorcycle ran over his head, Don Weber was told he would never walk again.

This morning, he will begin riding his beach cruiser more than 3,000 miles across the country for brain-injured children with whom he works on a weekly basis.

“My life was pretty hard the two years after the accident. I want to show people you can do anything you set your mind to – even when everyone thinks you can’t do it – you can,” Weber said. “Watching the kids’ faces and how much they are inspired by my trip and the motivation it gives them makes me feel really good.”…  Details

Heads bowed in prayer, arms resting on each other’s shoulders, the five-member skateboarding team listened intently as their leader, Ben Warner, whispered a blessing of good health and strength for their cross-country trip.

Thus began the 2,500-mile journey that will take the five youths to 14 Boys & Girls Clubs across America in an ambitious quest to raise $100,000 for their home-state clubs in South Puget Sound, Wash. …  Details

PLEASE  HELP

I spend time in the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum located on the cliff overlooking Steamers Lane each time I go to Santa Cruz.  It’s small but almost spirtual for me to see the history of surfing.

The Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation Society is a nonprofit entity that was created in part  to preserve the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum. It is asking for donations to help maintain the Museum and even expand the hours of the popular landmark.
