The Porsche Motorsports team is undoubtedly a group of happy campers after last weekend. Not only did Porsche win its second consecutive event in the Long Distance Championship with a 911 GT3 R, but the automaker finished third with its 911 GT3 R Hybrid — a model that made its auto show debut in Geneva earlier this year.
Porsche factory drivers Joerg Bergmeister and Wolf Henzler took the wheel of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid for the event and came away impressed with the car’s performance. The hybrid features Porsche’s famous flat-six gasoline motor, supplemented by two electric motors. Advantages aren’t found in fuel consumption alone (Porsche claims it was able to run one fewer pitstop than the competition), but also in the extra power created by the two supplemental motors … Details

Rhys Millen will race this dramatic Le Mans-style car at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, as he bids to claim the overall record time for the 12.42-mile “Race to the Clouds.”Â

Formula Drift kicked off the 2010 season last weekend with its 5th annual Streets of Long Beach event on turns 9, 10, and 11 of the Grand Prix course that’ll see ALMS and IndyCar action this weekend.
